Marie Claire Group's Key Dates
1937
Jean Prouvost, founder of Paris Soir, launched Marie Claire, a weekly women's magazine that was an immediate success. After the war, it was necessary to wait until 1954 to see the magazine appear again, this time as a monthly.
1967
Creation of Maison de Marie Claire, which became Marie Claire Maison in 1990.
1973
Launch of Cosmopolitan
1976
Jean Prouvost sold his Group to Hachette. Evelyne Prouvost took over women's titles of the Group and merged with the L'Oréal Group in 1977 (51% Prouvost family, including Evelyne Prouvost, CEO, and two of her sisters, Marie-Laure Prouvost and Donatienne de Montmort, and 49% l'Oréal).
1982
The Group expanded internationally with the first edition of Marie Claire Marie Claire in Japan
1983
The Group took over Cuisine et Vins de France.
1987
Shares taken in TF1.
1988
Launch of Avantages.
1991
Creation of Marie Claire Idées.
1993
Launch of the Famili magazine for parents.
1995
Takeover then launch of a new presentation of Marie France.
1996
The Groupe becomes a shareholder of the cable TV Chanel Téva.
1999
Creation of 100 Idées Jardin.
2001
Change in shareholders. L'Oréal and Donatienne de Montmort withdrew from the Group. With her sister Marie-Laure, Evelyne Prouvost took a majority shareholding of 58% in the H.E.P. holding company, which controlled 100% of the Marie Claire Group.
Hachette Filipacchi Médias entered into the Group's capital, with 42%.
Both press groups joined forces to develop their two major magazines internationally.
2002
Launch of Marie Claire China.
2004
Takeover of the magazines of Média Publications: Mariages, Votre Beauté and La Revue du Vin de France.
